Black Friday price adjustments in Canada: does your purchase qualify?

You may qualify for a price adjustment after buying early, but only if the retailer’s policy covers your item, seller, purchase date and later price. Check Black Friday exclusions separately from the ordinary adjustment window. Keep your receipt and confirm whether you must request the difference.

Before buying
Check the purchase window, eligible lower-price period and request deadline separately.
Seller and channel
Confirm who sells and ships the item and whether online and store purchases use the same process.
Holiday exclusions
A standard adjustment window does not establish Black Friday coverage.
Policy check
Canadian primary policies checked November 4, 2026. Recheck the linked terms before buying.

Three policies that answer different questions

Competitor price matching compares a retailer’s price with another seller’s offer. An own-price adjustment concerns a reduction by the retailer you bought from. Seasonal price protection may use a separate purchase window, product badge and comparison period. Read the policy that applies to your transaction.

Canadian eligibility comparison

These examples show how conditions differ; they do not confirm eligibility for a particular order. Follow the linked policy for all exclusions.

  • Newegg Canada 2026 terms: this example covers badged items sold and shipped by Newegg.ca, bought November 1–18, 2026. The page’s comparison graphic says November 19–28; its FAQ and terms describe later lower prices through November 28. Ask support about an earlier drop. Qualifying differences above $1 are processed automatically by December 8. Competitor prices do not count. The terms exclude doorbusters, shipping, rebates, combo offers, free gifts, buy-now-pay-later promotions, third-party promotions and promotional gift cards. Tax and loyalty or membership discounts are excluded from the comparison. Cryptocurrency refunds use a Customer Care Gift Card. We exclude marketplace purchases here because the page’s seller wording conflicts.

  • Apple Canada sales policy: for Apple-branded products bought from Apple, the reduction must occur within 15 calendar days of receipt; contact Apple within 15 calendar days of the change. Limited-time Black Friday and Cyber Monday reductions are excluded. Request a refund or credit through an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Contact Center; proof of possession may be required, with a limit of 10 units per product. Quebec customers are directed to separate terms.

  • Toys R Us Canada policy: an identical item qualifies for an own-price adjustment when its price falls within 30 days of purchase, with the original receipt. Special-sale exclusions include Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Boxing Day/Week, as well as online-only offers. For store purchases, take the original receipt to a local store. Confirm the route for an online order with support. Its separate competitor-matching process has different conditions. The page also carries a Quebec all-sales-final notice under returns; confirm your transaction’s terms rather than assuming this summary applies uniformly.

Save this receipt checklist

Keep the evidence together before the product page or promotion changes. A screenshot helps record what you saw; the retailer decides what evidence its policy accepts.

  • Receipt or order confirmation, amount paid, purchase date and delivery or receipt date.

  • Exact model or UPC, size, colour and included accessories.

  • Seller and shipper names, purchase channel and any required protection badge.

  • Dated lower-price page or advertisement, URL, effective dates and matching product details.

  • Policy URL and a dated copy of its terms, including event, coupon and marketplace exclusions.

  • Separate reminders for the lower-price window, request deadline and any stated refund date. Save the support reference if you contact the retailer.

If the price falls after purchase

Check that the offer is for the same item and an eligible seller, then compare the offer date with the policy window. Follow the stated request process before its deadline. For an automatic programme, keep your evidence and contact support if the stated processing date passes without the expected adjustment.

If the seller, channel or promotion is unclear, ask the retailer about your specific order. Do not budget around an unconfirmed refund. A return window and a price-adjustment window answer different questions; check each policy separately. Office of Consumer Affairs guidance recommends checking holiday exclusions and retaining receipts.

Does protection continue through Cyber Monday?

Check the comparison end date rather than the programme’s name. In the Newegg example above, November 28 comes before Cyber Monday on November 30, 2026. A December processing date does not extend the eligible lower-price period.

Frequently asked questions

Is a price adjustment automatic?

Check the specific programme. Some use automatic processing; others require you to contact the retailer within a separate deadline. Save your receipt and any required evidence either way.

Does a 30-day adjustment policy cover Black Friday?

The number of days alone does not establish coverage. Read the special-sale exclusions and any separate seasonal terms for the exact purchase.

Does buying from a marketplace seller count?

Confirm the seller-specific rules before relying on protection. A retailer’s website address alone does not establish that the retailer sold the item. This guide does not affirm Newegg marketplace coverage.
